From and Article in Medical Xpress (see link below). They are using “virtual screening” to see what small drug candidates might be effective to help with cancer treatments. the small molecules are more commercially available. And the small molecules can be used in oral medications, compared to other more invasive methods to be activated in patients.
These small molecules are checked to see if they can interact with Immunity Cells, like T-cells, to block an “Off switch” on the immunity cells. So that the cells are not “turned OFF” and actively target the tumors, and such. This ON/OFF switch on the cells may be blocked with small molecules. Previously larger molecules had been used.
It sounds like a couple great candidates were found in this study. And possibly more can be found using this method.
From the Article “The small molecules identified in this study not only exhibit strong binding affinities but also show promising activity in mouse models, including reducing the volume of tumors,” Gabr said. This suggests their potential for therapeutic development.”
