From Phys.org scientific researchers found a way to make biodegradable plastic from chemicals similar to those in clams or seashells. With some calcium containing molecules, etc
They say it is biodegradable in ocean waters as well, and possibly creates less risk of micro plastics.
The very odd part to me was that they think straws from this material would be “safer” than reusable metal straws?? That is odd to me, are we worried about poking someone’s eye out with a metal straw?? Would they shoot spitwads better and more precisely than conventional straws?
Shooting spit wads in junior high school is part of my origin story on meeting my wife, btw
