From an article in phys org researcher tried adding another X-point in the magnetic control of plasma in a nuclear fusion reactor, a tokamak.
This X-point is a new point that helps release heat from the plasma, so that it doesn’t disrupt or degrade the actual wall of the reactor. I imagine that’s very difficult to control and operate.
They say this can be more fully implemented on the next generation fusion reactor called SPARC.
if they got an actual commercial production fusion reactor working, in my lifetime. That would be amazing. IMHO
